For the past twenty years, I've worked in Life Orientation, helping young students choose the right subjects for matric and guiding them through their university applications. I've worked closely with parents who are unsure of the best subject combinations for their children, and above all, I've kept the children's best interests at the heart of everything I do.
My approach
I believe children need to follow a path that will genuinely interest them for many years to come. That means looking inward — researching their own values, their beliefs, and what they can realistically see themselves doing in the workplace one day.
It's also about balance: weighing a realistic assessment of a child's capabilities and prospects of succeeding against their ambitions and goals. When those two things are properly balanced, a child is far more likely to succeed and be happy in what they choose to do.
And just as importantly, it's about helping parents recognise what's genuinely best for their child — not necessarily what they think their child should do.
National benchmarking experience
I served as Chief Invigilator for the National Benchmarking Test for a number of years — the test conducted by most South African universities to assess whether students are ready for university life.
A bit about me
Outside of my work, I'm a mother of two and have been married to my wonderful husband for many years. We live in Johannesburg, along with our dog and two cats, and I'm a proud grandmother to three grandchildren.
